Cobalt Drill

A cobalt drill is popular with people that are working with hard metals, steel alloys, stainless steel, chrome, armor plate and titanium alloys. Cobalt drill bits are available in two grades known as an M35 grade cobalt drill and an M42 grade cobalt drill. These two grades show the percentage of cobalt that is contained within the high-speed steel cobalt drill bit. An M35 grade cobalt drill bit has five percent cobalt and ninety-five percent high-speed steel. An M42 grade drill bit includes eight percent of cobalt content.

A cobalt drill bit can remain sharp for a longer period of time if you use proper drilling methods. If the cobalt drill bit is used on metal, it reduces the speed at which it is drilled. When a cobalt drill bit is sharpened, the cobalt drill will retain the hardness of cobalt. Unlike a cobalt drill, a titanium drill bit will lose the titanium coating when it is sharpened.
